Saddam was captured Saturday Dec. 13th by American forces and the news has been greeted with great fanfare by all
the news media with a lot of predictions about how it will affect the outcome of the 2004 presidential election. President Bush has
made his comments on the capture in a short television appearance and now the world is waiting to see what effect it will have in Iraq.
The Voice From The Mountain tells me there are still uncertain times
ahead for the occupation forces in Iraq.
I predict there will be a struggle for power in the country which will be very difficult to control and, if
President Bush tries to pull our troops out too early, the whole war will have been in vain. Even if a new government can be
established by the different factions, as soon as troops are removed, the power struggle will be renewed and without outside help the
country will sink into chaos, posing a much greater threat to world peace and security than would have occurred if Saddam had never
been removed by force.
I contend our leaders acted too hastily in Iraq and should have allowed diplomatic forces to unseat Saddam. The
UN inspectors were in position to prove whether weapons of mass destruction existed in the country and other major countries were
supporting the effort.
Who Benefits From Bush's War?
Already, we are learning about the excessive profits the American companies are reaping in Iraq and just recently
the Bush administration has decided to exclude others from bidding on the rebuilding projects which our tax dollars are financing. I
contend that without open bidding on the contracts we very likely will pay much more of our hard earned money to rebuild Iraq. True
capitalism would dictate that we hire the company who submits the lowest bid.
I predict that Baker will have a tough row to hoe when he asks France, Germany and Russia to forgive the billions
Iraq owes them, and why should they cancel these debts and allow American and British companies to reap the profits from the
lucrative war contracts and oil pumped from the ground there?
